FIGHT AIDS WHILE PERFECTING DIGITAL MARKETING SKILLS UNDER ABZYME RESEARCH FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBER KERRY BETTENHAUSEN

The Abzyme Research Foundation is currently looking for an intern to serve as a social media associate to support aggressive fundraising goals for 2012. The expected duration of this position is three months (or more, depending on the candidate’s schedule and interest) and roughly 5-10 hours a week, depending on level of expertise in social media. This position is unpaid, and open to college graduates, graduate students or upper-level undergraduates.

Intern Description:
Responsibilities include implementing digital campaigns across video, email, Twitter, Fundly and Facebook; researching creative ways to build on successful fundraising efforts; and drafting materials to be released on behalf of the Foundation. A portion of the internship work will be aimed at supporting a PSA educational program called Voices for a Vaccine aimed at fostering new advocates for HIV research. The candidate who fills this position will serve under Kerry Bettenhausen, who is currently serving as the Director of Public Engagement for the Abzyme Research Foundation. Working directly under Kerry and with the support of Zachary Barnett, Founder and Executive Director, the intern will gain valuable experience working in a variety of mediums in a non-profit environment.

Necessary Skills:
All applicants should be familiar with social media campaign methodologies, fundraising in a social environment, Microsoft Office Programs, have excellent writing and communication skills, and should be comfortable working with a fair amount of autonomy. A passion for HIV/AIDS charity work is appropriate. The applicant should be prepared to dedicate approximately 10 hours/week to the work of the Foundation unless other arrangements are determined based on experience and level of expertise in the field.

In our new video series “Voices For A Vaccine”, we are challenging people to imagine how an effective HIV vaccine would change their lives. For our first video, we set up cameras at AIDS Walk NYC 2011 organized by GMHC and ask walkers that very question, below is the touching and moving video.

In upcoming videos we will be pairing activists and celebrities to speak share real stories from the frontline of the war on HIV/AIDS with a platform to travel globally.

Abzyme Research Foundation is now a 501(c)(3)!

Dear Friends,
The last few months have brought a wave of productive activity. We received our 501(c)(3) charity status in September. We opened our first public office in Brooklyn in October and there are many great events happening in November leading up to the kickoff of our fundraising efforts to raise $1.5 million for a human trial through the University of Houston Science Center at the Houston Medical School. Our first notable event will be December 1^st, World AIDS Day. The goal next year is to raise these funds from private donors and Foundations to put HIV E-VAC, the promising therapeutic HIV vaccine candidate we have been supporting for over 2 years, into a human trial. Too exciting for words. A new site is in the works, and will be up by Dec 1^st, including a completely revamped donation site.

New Status, New OfficeWe are excited to welcome in interns and part time professionals in the Brooklyn office. Look for ongoing opportunities on our volunteer page or if you don’t see one listed, please call us! We’re always interested in hearing from interested volunteers.In order to fulfill this incredible fundraising goal, we will need all of the help we can get. 	Events, events, events!The week of November 10th, Zachary Barnett will be traveling to Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and San Francisco for events. The event in San Francisco is open to the public, and promises to be a fun time! Tickets are only $20 and are available for pre-sale at http://endhiv_sf_masquerade.charityhappenings.org. This event was put together by a volunteer that was inspired by another friend’s event across the country in NYC. We are fully grassroots! The following week, he will be at the Lords Hotel in Miami South Beach to host a luncheon and discuss our upcoming work with supporters in the area. You can check out the details here. Nominate an ActivistLastly, we are excited to start working on our first public awareness campaign. Voices For A Vaccine is a is a multi-faceted media project with an objective to amplify real stories of how an HIV vaccine will have a powerful impact on the lives of individuals who have been touched by HIV. ARF in the White House and in the News

Dear Friends,
The summer has proved to be amazing for ARF. We have signed up our first 3 Scientific Advisers, expanded our board, and opened new markets to the Taste For Change program. This year we have already raised over $50,000 dollars to advance abzyme studies- with over $30,000 of that going directly to research. At the halfway mark of our year, we are excited to raise the other $50,000!

Everyone’s favorite NY1

What an unforgiving camera angle! I kid, I kid. ARF is featured on NY1 last month for our signature Taste For Change Campaign. This special edition featured hosts from MTV, Big Fuel Creative Group, and Clay Health Gym and Spa. Among the great raffle give aways were training sessions and tickets to Broadway’s NORMAL HEART. This fun and easy event raised over $3,000 for the research at UT Texas. Check out the feature here.
